Arcadia Sneaks by Women's Soccer in Conference Match

Box Score

GLENSIDE, Pa. - In the hunt for their second straight conference win the Lady Lions faced off against unbeaten Arcadia University Wednesday afternoon at Kuch Center. Ranked ninth in the Mid-Atlantic Region on the most recent NSCAA Regional Poll, the host Knights (11-0-3/3-0 Commonwealth) defeated the Lady Lions (4-7-2/1-2 Commonwealth) by the slim score of 1-0.

The lone Arcadia goal was not recorded until the 58th minute of the second half on a quick shot by Stephanie Welch. The sophomore managed to be in the right spot at the right time as she received a pass from Janelle Jablonski right inside the Lion's goal box.

Despite the tough loss, the Lady Lions continued their strong play that earned them a 2-0 conference win over Elizabethtown College last Saturday. Of the six shots taken by the red and white, four of them were on goal forcing goalkeeper Jacki Law to come up with the saves.

Law has played a major part in Arcadia's success this season starting all 14 matches in which she has allowed just two goals on the year. Her goal against average of 0.15 not only leads the Commonwealth Conference but also ranks her third in Division III Women's Soccer. Law's save percentage of 97.4% leads both the conference and the nation.

Playing another strong game in goal for the Lady Lions was Commonwealth Conference Goalkeeper of the Week #Olivia Giuliano#, who made eight saves in the match. Combined Giuliano faced 17 shots from Arcadia's offense and for only the third time all season, held Arcadia to just one goal.

Producing shots on goal for Albright were #Lauren Panichelle#, #Kim Harkins#, #Alexa Talbot#, and #Gloria Alfonsi#. Arcadia led the match in corner kicks taken with 10. Albright recorded four corner kicks, and proved to be the more aggressive team throughout the contest.

Women's Soccer will return to action tomorrow evening when they host Valley Forge Christian at 7 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
