READING, Pa. - What better way then to celebrate the final home match of your playing career then scoring the game-winning goal against a conference opponent. That idea became a reality when senior
Isla Wilczynski netted an unassisted goal in the first half to give Albright (8-8-3/1-5-1 CC) a 1-0 Commonwealth Conference win over Lycoming College (7-8-1/0-6-1 CC) Saturday afternoon in Shirk Stadium.
Wilczynski's game-winner, her third of her career, came in the 13th minute when she dropped the ball of Lycoming's Caitlin Dougherty. At the time it seemed as if though Albright would possibly add to their lead, but as the physicality of Saturday's match increased, that lone goal from Wilczynski became more and more important.
As time continued to wind down the Warriors began pressuring the Lions defense extremely hard. However with goalkeeper
Olivia Giuliano leading the way, the red and white were able to hold the Warriors scoreless. The shutout win was Giuliano's fourth of the season. The New Jersey native totaled six saves to close out the year with a 6-8-3 record.
Albright as a team combined for five shots in the match, with three of those finding their way on goal. The Lions also led the match in corner kick opportunities with five as compared to Lycoming's three.
Women's Soccer will lose Wilczynski to graduation.
