READING, Pa. - Starting tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. members of the Albright Men's and Women's Track and Field teams will be competing for a chance to call themselves champions as they represent the red and white at the 2009-10 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship meet at Lehigh University.
Head Coach
Deneen Ebling is very confident that her athletes will be amongst the top finishers at this year's championship meet.
Looking to make an immediate impact from the start will be the duo of
Justin Gewirtz and
Clif LeGrand who are two of the top-3 competitors in the high jump. Gewirtz currently leads the conference with his jump of 6-04.00, with LeGrand sitting in third with his jump of 6-02.00.
Overall LeGrand is ranked in the top-5 in the triple jump and 55 meter dash, and is currently ranked eighth in the long jump right behind team leader
Daniel Simmons.
Clark Runciman will have a very busy day for the Lions as he is set to compete in the pole vault, long jump, high jump, and triple jump. Rennie Oshane is making his first appearance at MAC's and is currently ranked eighth in the 55 meter hurdles.
The Lions throwers will also be battling it out for the top spots at this year's championship meet. Led by Anthony Pellegrino, the red and white will have a total of four competitors in both the weight and shot put events. Competing in both the weight and shot put will be
Andrew Hettinger and
Dane Canonico.
Freshman
Robert Baldwin will be making his first appearance in the weight throw, while
Jordan Gilbert returns to the shot put event in hopes of placing in the top-10.
As the Lions only long distance runner, record setter
Bob Kellert is one of 36 competitors in the 1 mile run event.
For the women's team, Mackenzie Miller will be the Lady Lions go to competitor in the indoor pentathlon, 55 meter hurdles, and triple jump. In the long jump it will be both Miller and
Shannon Loos looking to earn top marks.
Shannon's twin sister
Meghan Loos is currently ranked in the top-5 in the high jump, and could definitely be one of the top-3 finishers in the event. Freshman
Lindsay Boyd will also be in action competing in both the weight throw and shot put events.
Switching over to the track events, the Loos sisters and
Taylor Kutz are set to compete in the 55 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, and the 400 meter dash. This speedy trio will be joined by teammates
Dezare Lyles (55 meter dash) and
Danielle DiPietro (400 meter dash) as well throughout the day.
Slowing things down just a little bit is sophomore
Kim Hummel, who will be making her first championship meet appearance in the 1 mile run event.
It should be an exciting day for the red and white, as they look to make a run and throw their way to individual and team gold.
