SALISBURY, Md. - In their 2010 season opener the Lady Lions (0-2) faced some stiff competition in 21st ranked Salisbury University (3-2) Friday afternoon at SU Softball Field. The host Seagulls defeated Albright by the final scores of 8-0 and 17-2 both in five innings of play.

On the day, the Lady Lions were led by senior second baseman Kelli Zimmerman who recorded two hits and one run scored in her six appearances at the plate. Also producing at the plate for the red and white was Brandy Lagomarsino who recorded her first collegiate hit, as well as Nikki Schwenk and Jaime Weckesser.

Sophomore Becky Crandall also tallied her first her hit of the season in the second game of the double-header.

For the host Seagulls they totaled 23 hits in Friday's doubleheader, and were led by Kelly Waskewicz who in eight appearances at the plate totaled six hits, four RBI's, and two runs.

In game one of the doubleheader, Salisbury jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning. They then made it a 5-0 game in the second, then a 7-0 game in third. The Seagulls last run of game one came in the bottom of fifth to secure the 8-0 victory.

The nightcap was a much different story for Albright, after surrendering two runs in the bottom of the first, the red and white tied the game at 2-2 in the top of third. Unfortunately, the Seagulls quickly flew away with the game scoring 15 runs in the bottom of that same inning to earn the sweep.

Softball returns to action tomorrow morning when they take on Rowan University at 9 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. game against Frostburg State University. Both games will be played at Salisbury University as part of the Early March Tournament.
