Women's Soccer Battles Rutgers-Newark to 1-1 Draw

Box Score

NEWARK, N.J. - It was another long afternoon for the Lady Lions (1-2-2) as they went the full 110 minutes for the second straight game this time with Rutgers-Newark (3-3-1). The two teams battled back and forth for the entire match only to end in a 1-1 draw at Alumni Field.

Netting Albright's lone score of the afternoon was #Katie Cooper# off of a pass from #Jordan Cassidy#. That goal evened the score at 1-1 in the 59th minute of the non-conference match.

Rutgers-Newark's only goal of the day came in the 54th minute on a rebound goal from Liana Abreu. Assisting her teammate in the then, go ahead score was Alex Nata.

Goalkeeper #Olivia Giuliano# produced 15 saves in the contest, while her Scarlet Raiders counterpart, Kat Renteria came up with seven saves of her own.

Combined the two teams produced 49 shots respectively. Rutgers-Newark's offense combined for 16 shots on goal and five corner kicks. The Lady Lions ended Wednesday's match with a total of eight shots on target and two corner kicks.

After a scoreless first half, Rutgers-Newark put the first dent into the scoreboard early in the second. Looking to build off that goal, the Scarlet Raiders began pressuring the red and white's defense.

However, the Lady Lions held strong and were able to force an effective counter attack on the other side of the pitch. With the ball at Cassidy's feet, she was able to lay the ball across the middle of the goal box, where it was redirected by Cooper.

Following the Albright goal, the two teams held strong in the middle third of the field. Both squads had their opportunities throughout the remainder of regulation, but were unable to seal the deal.

In the first overtime period, Albright recorded the only three shots taken. With the score knotted at 1-1, the two teams took a quick break and switched halves for the last time. Rutger-Newark's offense did come up with some chances in the second overtime, but Giuliano was able to come up with saves.

Women's Soccer returns to action on Tuesday when they host College of St. Elizabeth at 7 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
