Kim Harkins scored first half goals as the Albright College women's soccer team defeated King's 2-0 in a warmup for its big regular season final, Wednesday at Shirk Stadium.
Just 4:11 into the game,
Kirstie Potteiger's long clearance was run down by Hand, who calmly slid it inside the right post for a quick 1-0 lead. Potteiger almost played another ball over the top in the 12th minute but
Jordan Cassidy couldn't quite run it down.
Later in the half, both
Stephanie Przybyszewski and Harkins had shots blocked in quick succession, but Harkins followed up her own rebound and hit a nice curling shot that left the goalkeeper frozen and doubled the Lions' lead.
A
Jena Muller corner kick in the 15th minute was flicked on by Cassidy at the near post but senior
Meg Albright couldn't force it past a defender on the goal line. Four minutes later, Cassidy volleyed a shot off the bounce that forced a nice block save from King's goalkeeper
Lauren Duguid.
A minute later, Alee Gormlee fired high from 20 yards. Seconds after that chance, Albright won a free kick and Gormley hit it off the corner of the upright.
Hand cut around the left side early in the second half, but tried to shoot from a tight angle and was blocked. Przybyszewski picked up a loose ball on the run and fired from 20 yards but shot just a bit high.
Senior
Katie Cooper made a nice move to flick the ball past the last defender and get in behind, but fired high. On the ensuing corner,
Meg Albright was stuffed from one yard out.
The Lions out-shot the Monarchs 18-1, with nine different Albright players recording shots.
Albright improves to 8-3-4 and will host Widener on Homecoming this Saturday, where a win would put the Lions in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs.
