Senior defender
Kirstie Potteiger's first career goal proved to be the winner as the Albright College women's soccer team defeated Arcadia 2-1, Wednesday in Shirk Stadium.
Potteiger's strike came in the 17
th minute. After
Emily Diaz' initial shot was blocked, Potteiger followed it up and scored for a 2-0 advantage.
The Lions had led 1-0 after
Kim Harkins' corner was flicked on by
Erin Hand into the middle of the box, and
Stephanie Przybyszewski powered home a header to open the scoring.
Just 30 seconds into the game, Przybyszewski's cross deflected off an Arcadia defender and off the right post before being cleared.
The Knights scored late in the first half, as
Ashley Vaitis bounced a shot from 45 yards out over the head of Lion goalkeeper
Kelly Burian.
Early in the second half, senior
Alee Gormley played a nice ball that was flicked by
Jordan Cassidy right into Hand's path, eventually winning a corner kick. On that corner,
Alex Talbot volleyed on goal after a scramble, forcing a decent save from Arcadia's
Veronica Willig.
Kim Canfield tested Burian from long range in the 73rd minute, but the Albright freshman pushed the shot away. Burian came out to grab a dangerous free kick in the final seconds, ending the final Arcadia threat.
Albright improves to 8-4, 3-1 with the victory, putting itself in good position for the Commonwealth Conference playoff race. The Lions host Elizabethtown on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
