Box Score
The Albright College women's soccer team was beaten on Homecoming Saturday, losing a battle for third place 2-0 to visiting Stevenson University.
Allie Ondrejcak opened the scoring in the 6th minute, hitting a 35-yard shot over Albright's
Kelly Burian (with an assist from
Meaghan Williams).
Mackenzie Calhoun made it 2-0 early in the second half, taking a pass from
Shannon McGuire and ripping a shot near post.
The Mustangs pressured early, with Williams scrambling a shot just wide in the second minute, off a cross from the left side. Soon after, Burian had to come out to punch a dangerous cross away from danger.
Stevenson'
Ashlyn Hawbaker then played a nice ball in to
Catherine Madden, and Lion defender
Mel Sullivan made a crucial block on the play.
Albright's first shot came in the 34th minute and was an excellent chance, as
Jordan Cassidy cut inside but was saved by
Allison Johnson at the near post.
Cassidy was tripped up just outside the area, but Sullivan's free kick was high.
Jena Muller had a decent look midway through the second half, shooting two feet over the crossbar.
The Lions (third place in the Commonwealth heading into the game) fall to 9-6, 4-3 with a crucial home game vs. Alvernia on Wednesday. Stevenson, who was in fourth, moves to 10-4-2, 4-1-2 and jumps Albright in the standings with two games left to play.
