Megan O'Brien's first collegiate goal was enough to lead the Albright College women's soccer team past Hood, 1-0 on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.
A 69th minute free kick deflected off a defender and was scrambled in by O'Brien at the near post.
The Lions held Hood to just one shot in 90 minutes. A mostly uneventful first half had featured just six shots (all for Albright), with only one of them on target.
Rebecca Sartorio collided with the goalkeeper in the 22nd minute and
Natalie Wilson put the ball into the open goal, but the foul was called.
Dylan Shipe had a free kick caught by Hood goalkeeper Leah Norris, and
Mel Sullivan was through on a breakaway but missed wide left.
The only dangerous moment for Hood came in the 29th minute, when a good cross was cleared out for a corner by
Amanda Toto.
In the 40th minute, Paige Pearson's header forced good tip save from Norris. On the ensuing corner, O'Brien won a header but put it high.
Sullivan lofted a second half free kick over the keeper and just missed the far corner. Wilson chipped a dangerous ball in front of goal but a Hood defender cleared it away from danger.
The Lions improve to 5-6-1 and 1-2 in Commonwealth play, and will travel to Lycoming on Tuesday.
