Senior
Jena Muller scored in the 86th minute to give the Albright College women's soccer team a huge 1-0 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday evening.
Muller hit
Emily Sousa's cross from the right side over the goalkeeper's head to push Albright to 3-2 in the Commonwealth Conference with four games remaining.
The Dutchmen started seven seniors, while the Lions had six freshmen in their starting lineup.
The Lions nearly played Sousa through on several occasions in the first half. Muller crossed to the Lion rookie 22 minutes in, but her shot was saved from close range.
A
Megan O'Brien header off an Albright corner later in the half was blocked, and
Kelly Burian's rebound chance at the doorstep was smothered by LVC goalie
Taylor Reinhold.
LVC had three good chances in a three minute span of the second half.
Kelly Burian cleared a chance of the line, before
Rachel Cummings missed the near post and
Alexis Lorusso saved a hard shot by
Lindi Crist.
It was Homecoming weekend, and a full day of events included a cross country meet and the Homecoming parade in the morning, a football game against Wilkes, and the women's/men's soccer doubleheader in the evening.
It was a rematch of the 2012 Commonwealth Conference first round matchup, won 2-0 by Lebanon Valley in Annville, Pa. In that game, then-senior
Nicole Snyder had scored once and drawn a penalty to set up a late insurance tally.
Albright is now 7-6-1, 3-2 and will host Widener on Wednesday in another crucial Commonwealth Conference matchup. LVC is also 3-2 in league play.
