Following their hard fought draw Saturday evening, the Albright women's soccer team earned a gutty 3-2 win tonight against FDU-Florham.
Both teams had several opportunities in the beginning of the first half, making for a back and forth matchup.
At the 36th-minute mark, freshman
Emily Sousa was fouled inside the eighteen granting the Lions a penalty kick. On the kick, senior
Mel Sullivan buried the ball past
Annie George, tallying her second goal of the season.
The Albright momentum carried its way into the second half when five minutes in, Sousa darted past the FDU-Florham defense and drilled her fifth goal of the season.
The Lions' offensive surge continued when Sousa gathered a bouncing ball in the FDU-Florham zone and assisted
Rebecca Sartorio to net a wide open goal, giving Albright a seemingly commanding 3-0 lead.
FDU-Florham finally put themselves on the board with fifteen minutes left in regulation, as
Jennifer DiGioia sent a strike past
Jaymee Stepp off of a
Samantha Messina assist.
Just five minutes later, FDU cut their deficit to one when
Kim Overland assisted DiGioia to earn her second goal of the night making the score 3-2.
Albright's three-goal lead ultimately proved to be insurmountable, despite an inspired late rally by the Devils.
With tonight's victory, the Albright Lions improve their record to 3-3-1, while the FDU-Florham Devils drop to 3-6. The Lions' next chance at a winning record will come Saturday as the team hosts Delaware Valley College at 12 p.m.
