READING, Pa. --
Tracy Snyder and
Amanda Smith each scored a goal and had an assist helping lead the Albright field hockey team to a 4-1 Commonwealth Conference victory over visiting Hood on Saturday at Shirk Stadium.
Albright improved to 2-2 in the Commonwealth Conference with the victory to pull within a half game of three teams tied for second in the league standings with 2-1 conference records.
The Lions, who snapped a six-game losing streak with the win, also received goals from
Samantha Martin and
Kendra Delgado.
Albright was deadly on penalty corners on the afternoon as the Lions had seven corners and turned three of them into goals.
Smith put Albright ahead at the 5:34 mark of the first half when she scored off an assist from
Tracy Snyder giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Martin scored her first goal of the season 1:26 later when she scored unassisted off of a penalty corner.
The Lions pushed the lead to 3-0 at the 22:29 mark of the first period when Delgado scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Smith. It marked the second consecutive game in which Delgado has scored for Albright.
After a goal by Tayler Piper cut the Albright lead to 3-1, the Lions responded with an unassisted goal by Snyder at the 56:09 mark.
Senior goalie
Gabby Frake picked up the win in goal as she made one save on the afternoon.
Frake and Martin, the two seniors on the 2014 team, were honored before the game as a part of senior recognition day.
Albright will return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 22) when it hosts Alvernia in a Commonwealth Conference game at 4:30 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
