READING, Pa. –
Jessie Leonardis scored her third goal of the season for the Albright College field hockey squad, but visiting Misericordia University came away with 3-1 victory Thursday evening at Shirk Stadium.
The season ends for the Lions (2-18) while the Cougars (12-7) move on the Freedom Conference tournament next week.
Miericordia opened the scoring in the 8
th minute when Colby Eldridge knocked home a rebound that deflected to her in the center of the goal area, The Cougars doubled its advantage when Lindsay Hischak found Jennifer O'Neill for her first of the day and 14
th of the season to make it 2-0 in the 20
th minute.
Leonardis brought the Lions to within a goal late in the first half when she picked a loose ball just outside the crease and knocked in her third of the season to make it a 2-1 contest at the 33:20 mark.
The Cougars held a 7-2 edge in shots at goal,
Gabby Frake made four saves in the goal for Albright and
Colleen Cahill made a defensive save for the Lions early in the half to keep the game scoreless.
Misericordia had an 8-2 edge in corners awarded in the half and 11-4 for the game.
O'Neill added another goal in the 55
th minute to make the final score 3-1.
Amanda Smith and Leonardis each registered two shots on goal and
Kendra Delgado also had an attempt at goal for the Lions.
Frake ended the game with five saves and Angela Pasquini did not record a save in picking up the victory.
