Meet Information and DirectionsAlbright College men's and women's cross country will travel to compete at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday at
Union Canal Tunnel Park hosted by Lebanon Valley College.
The top 10 finishers earn first team All-MAC honors, while places 11-20 will earn second team accolades.
Cross Country Head Coach Tony Skiles believes freshman
Chad Bomgardner has the ability to earn all-conference status, but is concerned about the weather playing a factor in the race. "Saturday is supposed to be cold and wet," Skiles said, "you never know how the runners will react to the change in conditions."
The freshman will be joined by classmate
Malik Sylla and sophomore
Trey Thatcher who have also recorded top 15 finishes throughout the fall. Skiles says both are young and learning when it comes to cross country running and have improved steadily throughout the season.
The women will be represented by freshman
Jo Carter who has been posting improving times as the season has progressed and coach Skiles is looking for no less on Saturday. She has an excellent chance to have a good finish," Skiles said, I believe she is capable of breaking into the top 30.
Bomgardner has raced to two victories and a runner up finish in the last three races, and is in contention for rookie of the year in the MAC. The top freshman runner at the championships is awarded the conference rookie of the year, Bomgardner has been one of top three newcomers in the MAC during the season.
Familiarity with the course could give Bomgardner an edge. "It was his conference course in high school," Skiles said, "he should have family and friends there to cheer him on, it could feel like a home meet for Chad."
The men's 8 Kilometer race will begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. The women's 6 K is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
