Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Late Rally by Lions Field Hockey Comes Up Short

ASTON, Pa. -- Two separate rallies by the Albright College field hockey team came up just short as the Lions dropped a 3-2 non-conference decision to Neumann on Tuesday at Turf Field.

Albright trailed 1-0 and 3-1 before mounting a comeback in each instance to get back into the game. Ultimately, Neumann prevailed despite Albright owning a substantial advantage in most statistical categories.

The Knights took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Lindsey Spatola scored her sixth goal of the season on a penalty stroke at the 23:49 mark.

Albright, which fell to 1-9 on the season, rallied to tie the score at 1-1 when Amanda Smith scored her second goal of the season on a penalty stroke with 4:51 remaining in the first half.

Neumann, which improved to 5-5 overall, responded with two quick goals to begin the second period to regain the lead. Jessica Harrell scored her fourth goal of the year just 2:53 into the second stanza to give the Knights a 2-1 lead.

Less than two minutes later Jordan Hopkins added her fifth goal on the season giving the Knights a 3-1 lead at the 39:45 mark of the game.

Albright was not done though as the Lions countered with a goal by Amanda Long to cut the Neumann lead to 3-2 at the 43:55 mark.

The Lions held a 17-7 advantage in shots and also had 13 penalty corners compared to eight for Neumann.

Albright returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 2) when it visits third-ranked College of New Jersey for a 7:30 p.m. game.
