GRANTHAM, Pa. -- Nothing was more emblematic about Albright's first foray into the MAC Commonwealth Tournament than the final play of the game, which was a penalty corner for the Lions. The Lions were trailing top-seeded Messiah 5-1 at that point and nothing Albright could do would change the final outcome. Showing the determination that resulted in them qualifying for the tournament for the first time in school history, Amanda Smith scored on that final play.

Albright left everything on the field in the semifinal meeting with Messiah, but fell short 5-2 on Wednesday at Anderson Field.

Smith tallied a pair of second-period goals for the Lions, but it was not enough to overcome a five-goal first period by the Falcons.

Moriah Pfautz and Taylor Holt each scored a pair of goals to lead Messiah to the victory.

Pfautz got Messiah on the board at the 6:51 mark of the first period when she scored off an assist from Hannah Roland.

Holt then scored just over two minutes later to give Messiah an early 2-0 lead.

Pfautz added her second goal of the game at the 14:47 of the first period to extend the Messiah lead to 3-0.

Kezia Loft pushed the Messiah lead to 4-0 when she scored at the 18:59 mark of the first period.

Messiah took a 5-0 lead into the intermission Holt scored her second goal of the game at the 19:49 mark.

Smith got Albright on the board at the 53:33 mark of the second period when she scored her 22nd goal of the season working off a penalty corner.

Smith capped the scoring when she scored with no time remaining on the clock to bring the final score to 5-2 off an assist from Sam Chichearo.

Albright will await a possible ECAC Tournament bid, which will be announced following the revelation of the NCAA Tournament field.
