Donmoyer Goal Pushes Field Hockey Past Widener

READING, Pa. – Kaley Donmoyer scored in the 13th minute with the match's only goal as the Albright field hockey team won its fourth straight game when it defeated Widener, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. Aileen Taylor made nine saves in goal for the Lions.

The stats were nearly even for both sides as each team registered 14 shots and Albright held a slim 9-8 advantage in penalty corners, but the Lions had the advantage on the scoreboard thanks to Donmoyer and Amanda Long. Long got behind the defense and pulled Widener goalie Mikayla Ninos out of the net to challenge. It was then that Long found Donmoyer along the right side. Donmoyer accepted the pass and ripped a shot past Ninos to make it 1-0.

That score held up thanks to solid defense and goalkeeping. Taylor had nine stops, including four in the second half as Widener picked up the offensive pressure looking for the equalizer. She stopped Sam Scoma on a breakaway in the second half, and defender Kendra Delgado chipped in with a defensive save in the first half. Taylor tied her season high with nine saves.

On the offensive side, the Lions had four players each register three shots. Long, Donmoyer, Kasey Neiderer and Tracy Snyder had three apiece while Marley Berger had two.

The Lions travel to Messiah on Wednesday before returning home to face Hood next Saturday night.
