Lutz's Two Goals Lift Lions to First Win of Season

READING, Pa – Sophomore Brittany Lutz scored two goals to lead Albright to its first win of 2016, a 3-2 victory over Penn State Altoona Saturday night in Shirk Stadium.  The Lions now stand at 1-3 on the season, while Altoona falls to 1-2.

Altoona got on the board first, when Sherry Moore scored an unassisted goal just 3:28 into the game to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Albright controlled play from that point, and tied the score in the 34th minute when junior Emily Saxon scored on a free kick for the Lions to knot the score at 1-1.

Albright needed just a minute and 20 seconds to take its first lead of the evening.  Lutz scored in the box off an assist from freshman Jillian Lapidus to give Albright a 2-1 lead.

Albright increased its lead to 3-1 in the 62nd minute.  Lutz drilled a shot from outside the 18 into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Lions a two goal cushion. Altoona got a goal from Brooklyn Haugh in the 85th minute to cut the Albright lead to 3-2, but the Lions were able to hold that lead for the final five minutes to secure their first win of the season.

Albright out shot Altoona 25-8 in the game, and finished with five corner kicks to two for the visitors.  Sophomore goalkeeper Payton Bogatch recorded five saves for Albright to pick up her first win of the season.

Albright will be back in action Sunday afternoon, when Pitt-Greensburg comes to Shirk Stadium for a 2:00 kickoff.
