Lions Fall to DeSales in Home Opener

READING, Pa – The Albright women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to DeSales Wednesday night in Shirk Stadium. The loss drops the Lions to 0-3 on the season, while DeSales improves to 3-1.

Scoring chances were hard to come by for both teams in the opening half.  Albright had three shots in the half, forcing Bulldog goalkeeper Emily Hoats to make one save, on an attempt from sophomore Brittany Lutz.  Sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Tunney had one save for the Lions in the half on two DeSales shots.

Albright came out strong in the second half, getting a shot from Lutz and a corner kick in the opening minutes, but could not get on the scoreboard. DeSales was able to break the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute, when Danni Engwall scored off a pass from Caroline Nealon.

The Lions had chances to tie the score, including a corner kick in the 85th minute, but the Bulldogs held off Albright to escape with the 1-0 win.

DeSales out shot Albright 8-6 in the match, while each team had three corner kicks.  Tunney finished the night with two saves for Albright.

The Lions will play a pair of home game this weekend.  Albright hosts Penn State Altoona Saturday evening at 6:00, and will then welcome Pitt-Greensburg to Shirk Stadium for a 2:00 match Sunday afternoon.
