SCRANTON, Pa. – The Albright Lions field hockey team nearly rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second half before dropping a 2-1 road contest to Scranton in non-conference play on Tuesday night.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 4-5 on the season and still holds a 1-1 record in conference play. Meanwhile, the Lady Royals improve to 11-0 as they continue their unbeaten streak.
The Royals struck first in the 12
th minute of the game on the first shot of the game when Ryan Jones scored off a pass from behind the net. Albright nearly tied the game in the 29
th minute off a flurry of shots that were all saved by the Scranton goalkeeper. The Lions sent three shots to the net in a 13 second sequence. Albright held a 5-2 shot advantage after one period.
Scranton took control early in the second half and doubled its lead in the 44
th minute when Meredith Campbell scored off a pair of passes after a penalty corner. Much like their contest on Saturday, the Lions would cut their opponents lead in half in the 50
th minute when freshman
Bailey Lehman scored just inside the circle to make it 2-1. The freshman has now tallied points in four of her last five games. Albright continued to make one last charge with five penalty corner opportunities in the final 20 minutes of the game, but were unable to find the equalizer to force overtime.
The Lions held a 10-7 shot advantage for the contest with nine of their shots going on goal. Albright also held a 16-10 advantage in penalty corners as well.
Junior goalkeeper
Aileen Taylor suffered the loss after making three saves and allowing two goals in the full 70 minutes of play. Scranton goalkeeper Jenna Cyr earned the win after making eight saves and allowing one goal in the full 70 minutes.
Albright will return to action on Friday, October 6
th when they will host Lebanon Valley in MAC Commonwealth play at 7 p.m.
