CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer team was unable to overcome a three-goal second half deficit to DeSales as they dropped a 4-1 non-conference road contest on Wednesday evening in rainy conditions.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-2 on the season in their first non-conference match-ups of the year, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-0 on the season. Albright has lost four straight to DeSales dating back to the 2013 season.
The teams traded shots in the early part of the contest before the Bulldogs finally struck first in the 36
th minute off a header from a corner kick. Albright was just behind in shots to DeSales 6-4 in the first half, but the Bulldogs opened the game up in the second half with two goals within four minutes of each other to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the 53
rd minute. The Lions would get on the board in the 64
th minute when senior
Crissy Terraces scored her second goal of the season. Terraces took advantage of a failed clearing attempt of a corner kick in the box and tapped the ball past multiple Bulldog defenders.
DeSales would add one more goal in the 81
st minute off a failed clearing attempt by the Lions that went right to a Bulldog player to score. The Bulldogs outshout the Lions 8-2 in the second half, and 14-6 for the game. DeSales also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks as well.
Junior goalkeeper
Alexis Tunney took the loss while making five saves and allowing three goals in just over 65 minutes of action. She was relieved by classmate
Payton Bogatch who played the final 24 minutes of the game and made one save while allowing one goal. Bulldogs goalkeeper Haley Jacobs made two saves and allowed one goal in the full 90 minutes of action.
The Lions will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 9 when they will hit the road once again as they will take on McDaniel for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
