Women's Soccer Falls to Arcadia in MAC Commonwealth Semis

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The No. 3 seed Albright Lions women's soccer team (11-4-2) dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 2 seed Arcadia Knights (12-4-3) in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals on Wednesday night at Jean Lenox Field in Glenside.

Arcadia advances to play top seeded Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth championship game on Saturday, Nov. 3.

The Knights had a trio of free kick opportunities from the top of the box in the first half and broke through on the final attempt in the 42nd minute as Veronica Pontis headed home a feed from Karlie Flowers to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Arcadia held an 8-0 shot advantage in the opening stanza with five shots on net.

In the 55th minute, Julie Oswald collected a loose ball in the box off a header from Pontis and found the back of the net to extend the Arcadia lead to 2-0. Perhaps the best chance of the night for Albright came in the 76th minute when freshman Autumn Bieber sent a free kick just over the net.
