Field Hockey Posts 2-1 Win at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Albright Lions field hockey team picked up an important win on the road Saturday night as they defeated Moravian 2-1 in non-conference action.

With the win, the Lions snap a two-game skid to improve to 2-4 overall on the season. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds fall to 1-4 on the season.

The opening few minutes of the game would go without a shot before the Greyhounds registered the first shot at the 6:15-mark that went off the post. Albright would get one shot off in the first quarter, but that would be their lone shot during the entire first half as defense continued to rule. The Greyhounds had two good chances late in the second quarter as they had back-to-back shots off a penalty corner saved by junior goalkeeper Brynne Schoppe.

Albright came out strong in the second half as they earned a pair of penalty corners in the opening two minutes of the first half. The Lions would cash in on the second penalty corner as junior Bailey Lehman scored her sixth goal of the season in six games to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. The Greyhounds would then tie the score at one in the 36th minute after converting a shot off a penalty corner opportunity as well. Junior Jennifer Crumling opened the fourth quarter by scoring the eventual game-winning goal in the 46th minute that was assisted by senior Brooke Yerger. Albright's defense continued to play strong as they limited Moravian to just a pair of shots in the final quarter to preserve the victory.

The Lions held a 10-6 shot advantage for the game after out-shooting the Greyhounds 9-3 in the second half. Albright held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal, and an 11-7 advantage on penalty corners as well. Schoppe earned the win after making four saves in the full 60 minutes, while Greyhounds goalkeeper Ashley Kunsman suffered the loss after making five saves. Lehman has now scored in four-straight games for Albright.

Albright will return to action on Wednesday, September 18th as they will host Susquehanna at 7:30 p.m.
