CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Despite a late goal from junior
Lauren Haley, a matchup at DeSales University led to a 3-1 loss for the Albright women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon. The Lions fall to 1-2 overall and the Bulldogs improve to 2-1.
The game remained scoreless until five minutes were left in the first half and DeSales freshman Meghan Foley placed a shot in the upper left corner of Albright's net to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.
Just after the second half kicked off, sophomore Vanessa Atie one-touched a cross from classmate Cassidy Klein inside the back post for the Bulldogs. DeSales' third goal was scored in the 54
th minute of the game by sophomore Meghan Corbran after a failed attempt to clear by the Lions.
A lone Albright goal from Haley put the Lions on the board in the 73
rd minute as classmate
Amanda Fulcher dropped a ball over the defense on the left side and Haley beat DeSales' goalkeeper inside the near post.
In goal for Albright was sophomore
Vanessa Baker who notched her first start and full 90 minutes with the Lions, while having eight saves on the day. DeSales junior goalkeeper Lia Gaccione made three saves for the Bulldogs.
Albright registered six total shots, with three in each half and Haley paced the Lions with four of the six. The Bulldogs totaled 21 shots led by freshman forward Sam Monteforte with four.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Marywood University for a 1 p.m. game.
