Women's Soccer Shuts Out King's 2-0 in Homecoming Match

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer team celebrated homecoming Saturday evening with their sixth-straight shut out in a 2-0 victory over King's.

With the win, the Lions advance 4-2-2 while the Monarchs fall to 1-3.

The first 45 minutes of play was a battle of defenses as there were only four shots taken. Senior Kate Griffin finally broke the scoring drought with her first career goal late in the 43rd minute. Classmate Autumn Bieber laid up a perfect touch pass to Griffin who nailed the ball into the back of the net to claim the 1-0 lead for the Lions heading into the half.

Albright controlled the pace in the second half connecting four shots on goal to King's one. Bieber caught the Monarchs goalkeeper out of position and fired off a shot from outside the box into the back of the net, bringing the Lions lead to 2-0 in the 79th minute. Albright held on tight to their lead and shut down King's as they claimed the 2-0 victory to cap off homecoming Saturday.

Albright held an 8-6 shot advantage over King's as well as a 6-1 shot on goal advantage. First-year goalkeeper McKenna LeVan earns the win for the Lions and a program record fifth-straight shutout performance with one save in 90 minutes of action. LeVan also tallies a program record 535-minute shutout streak. Senior goalkeeper Tara Bender receives the loss for the Monarchs despite making four saves in the full amount of play.

Albright returns to Shirk Stadium Monday as they take on Stockton at 7:30 p.m.
