WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Albright women's track and field team wasted no time shaking off the rust at their first meet of the 2024 outdoor track and field season. The Lions turned in multiple podium finishes to take home third place overall as a team at the Purple and Gold Invite.

As a team the Lions finished with 30 points good enough to finish in a tie for third place. The Lions tied with division two East Stroudsburg turning in multiple podium finishes this afternoon. In total, 15 different institutions competed at the Purple and Gold Invite.
Laurel Gingrich was exceptional in the 400m race taking second overall. Gingrich was the best in the field of the division three ranks with a time of 1:08.15. The time was one of three in the field to be under the 1:10.00 threshold earning Albright eight team points.
Eren Tighe turned in the second, second place performance of the afternoon in the 400m hurdles. Tighe's time of 1:15.27 was good enough to beat out two student-athletes from division two West Chester University.
Mackenzie Dover was in action during the 100m race and preformed well taking home fifth place. Dover ran to a tune of 13.27 to earn the Lions four points in the team competition.
Nyla Callahan competed in the same 100m race and took home 8
th out of 27 individuals. Callahan's time of 13.92 was .01 second ahead of the ninth-place finisher.
Alyssa DeVita took home 8
th in the 800m race finishing with a time of 2:58.43. DeVita's time was three and half seconds better than the ninth-place finisher.
Orianna Edmond fared well in the hammer throw taking home 7
th with a throw of 23.81m in round number two of the event.
