Men’s Tennis Falls in MAC Commonwealth Semi-finals to Messiah

The Lions made their return trip to the MAC Commonwealth playoffs on Wednesday afternoon on the road against the top seeded Messiah Falcons. Messiah advanced with a 5-0 win.

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Albright men's tennis team made their return trip to the postseason on Wednesday afternoon on the road at Messiah. The Falcons advanced to the MAC Commonwealth Championship with a 5-0 victory.

Albright went 3-3 in MAC Commonwealth regular season play to earn the #4 seed in the MAC Commonwealth playoffs. The Lions qualified for postseason play for the first time in 18 years.

The Lions started conference play at 1-2 but won two of their last three matches to earn the playoff bid. Back on April 13, Albright beat Alvernia 5-4 for their first win over the Golden Wolves in at least the last 14 years. The win propelled Albright into winning five of their next six matches overall.

Coming into today's match, Albright was riding a four-game match win streak. Over the four matches Albright outscored their opponents 32-4 including winning two matches 9-0. The Lions figure to be significant players next season as every Lion in today's lineup will return next season.

In the MAC Commonwealth playoffs, the first team to reach five team points wins the match regardless of the scores of the other matches.

Today's match started with doubles seeing the Falcons take all three matches. Despite dropping the doubles matches, Albright was competitive throughout. Gerardo Sanchez and Dylan Huha dropped a close match 8-5 in #2 doubles while Adam Good and Clay Lewandowski fell by the same score line in #3 doubles.

Messiah closed the match out winning two singles matches. #1 singles player for the Lions Adam Good was leading his match 6-0, 5-3 in his first playoff match. Additionally, Sean Peppiatt was headed to a third set when the match finished in #4 singles.
