Field Hockey drops conference opener to Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – The Albright College field hockey team dropped a 9-0 decision on the road to Widener University on Saturday afternoon. The contest was the MAC Commonwealth opener for both squads.
 
The Pride (4-4, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) opened the scoring with a tally at the 5:49 mark of the opening period. The home team tacked three goals in the second quarter to take a 4-0 lead into the break. Out of the intermission, Widener pushed its lead to 6-0 in the third and finished off the contest with three in the final 10 minutes of action to top the Lions (2-8, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth)
 
Aniek Oostendorp had a shot on goal at the tail end of the first period, but the shot was stopped by the Pride goalkeeper. Bobbie Van Oordt registered a pair of shots in the 43rd minute, but neither efforts were able to find the back of the net.
 
Mackenzie Bunn finished with eight saves in net for the Lions, while Widener had two goalkeepers finish with three saves in the shutout effort.

The Lions will host Alvernia University in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday, October 7 p.m at Shirk Stadium. Prior to the contest, Albright will recognize Jessica Butz, McKena Cox, Amanda Hoover, and Lillian Tuffy with Senior Day festivities.
