BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Men's golf opened their season by taking second and third place at The Northampton Cup. The Lions "B" team recorded a team score of 300 to take second place. Albright "A" team followed close behind, shooting a 302 to finish T3 overall in the tournament. Archie Stoner tied for first in individual scoring by staying two under par at 70.
RESULTS
Stoner was able to lead the way for the Lions in his collegiate debut, making him the first Lion to score below par at the Northampton Cup, as well as the only first-year Lion to land a cup title. He was able to get there by staying two under par in the front nine and keeping it even on the back nine.
Frederik Alhanko and Ashton McKechan finished in a tie for sixth place in their first rounds back to action with scores of 73. Alhanko was one over par after the first nine, and he was able to secure an even par on the back half of the course. McKechan's round was an improvement on his performance in last season's Northampton Cup where he ended with a 76.
Filip Hjerten ended one spot behind Alhanko and McKechan finishing T11 with a round of 74, which is a 9-stroke improvement over last season's showing at the Cup.
Kellan Smith had a strong showing in his first appearance as a Lion. He placed T14 by shooting three over par, ending at 75.
Andrew Kowalinski and Oliver Liljeblad finished T17, shooting 76. Both men were able to find birdies on hole 11, a 477-yard par 5.
Charles Bailey, Tommy Kowalinski and Jonatan Liljeblad finished in the high-70s. Bailey had a 77, Kowalinski and Liljeblad both ended at 79.
Chris DiRita finished with an 81. He recorded two birdies on the day along with seven pars.
