
The 2019-20 season will mark the 17th year for
Deneen Ebling as the head coach for Albright’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams. Prior to becoming head coach of the Lions’ track and field programs, Ebling served as the assistant coach for five seasons (1999-2002), and primarily worked with the sprinters.
In 2018-19, the teams saw multiple records be set including the outdoor women's track & field discus throw by Cynthia Thorngate at MAC Championships. Freshman Jade Harris and Jaelynn Walker each set school records during the season.
In 2017-18, Ebling helped coach freshman Vernon Taylor to win gold in the 60 meter hurdles at the 2018 MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships and be named MAC Indoor Men's Track & Field freshman of the year. Jonathan Bieber also won his third straight gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
In 2016-17, junior Jonathan Bieber earned gold at the MAC Championships in the 110-meter hurdles.
At the 2015-16 Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships, Bieber became the first student-athlete in school history to claim both the 110 and 400 hurdle titles.
During the 2014-15 season, junior Oumar Diawara qualified for the NCAA Outdoor championships in the 200 meters and earned All-America honors by placing eighth in the finals.
Sprinter Danisha Higgs, the program's first Academic All-American, qualified for the NCAA outdoor championships in 2014 for a third time in four years. In 2013, Higgs was named the USTFCCCA Mideast Region Athlete of the Year.
In 2013, Ebling coached her second All-American as Higgs earned the recognition at 200 meters. In 2004, high jumper Jeff Witmyer also took home All-American honors.
Albright has had 10 NCAA qualifiers since 2005, with four athletes placing in the top 10 nationally.
Under Ebling, the Lions have broken 33 indoor school records (20 men, 13 women) and 25 outdoor school records (12 men, 13 women).
Following her graduation from Tulpehocken High School, Ebling attended Indiana University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminolgy in 1986. Ebling would then continue her education at West Virginia University where she received her master’s degree in Counseling in 1995.
Ebling began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Tulpehocken before taking the assistant coaching job at Reading Central Catholic High School in 1992. In 1996 Ebling was named head coach at Reading Central Catholic and remained there for three more seasons before taking an assistant position at Albright in 1999.
