Desiree Owle# the Lady Lions (3-7/1-4 Commonwealth) picked up their first conference win of the 2009 season defeating Lycoming College by the final score of 5-4 Tuesday afternoon at the Albright Tennis Courts.
Owle and Berzins' performances at second doubles and in singles competition fueled played a crucial part in the Lions conference victory. The duo managed to record their sixth doubles win of the season with an 8-5 decision over Lycoming's Erika Niemann and Kelly Drinkard.
From there, Berzins made quick work of Neimann at third singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win. That was followed up by a 6-0, 6-2 win by Owle over Drinkard. Also recording victories Tuesday afternoon were #
Shaunte Allen# and #
Amanda Cain# at third doubles. Cain also picked up a victory at sixth singles to give the red and white the victory.
To start the afternoon off duo #
Lisa Archibald# and #
Ashley Woodcock# played another extremely close match at first doubles. Tied 8-8 with Lycoming's Amiee Snyder and Rebecca Reynolds, the match moved into a tie-breaker. Despite their best efforts Snyder and Reynolds managed to earn the 7-3 win to give the Warriors their first point of the afternoon.
After the tough loss, the Lady Lions regrouped and battled right back to take the final two doubles victories, and then one three of the singles matches to take the huge 5-4 win.
Women's Tennis will close out their 2009 regular season schedule tomorrow afternoon when they host Messiah College at 3:30 p.m. on the Albright Tennis Courts.
