READING, Pa. - Behind a stealthy effort from three-point range by junior guard
Zac Shaeffer, the Albright Men's Basketball team (2-0) defeated TCNJ (3-1) 85-74 to win the Wyndham-Reading Tip-Off Tournament. Shaeffer led all scorers with 20 in the contest, including six three balls.
It was a remarkable shooting weekend for Shaeffer, who was named the Tournament MVP for his efforts.
Matt Ashcroft scored in double figures as well for the red and white, finishing with 16. Also scoring in double digits were Andrew Pomager (12),
Cornell Mickens (11), and
Shane Irwin (10).
The Lions had a very good night shooting from the field, finishing at a 51% clip for the evening. The defense matched the good shooting, by holding TCNJ to a 36% night from the field.
Steven Siracusa notched another double-double for TCNJ, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 boards. Joining him in double figure scoring, was the duo of Jay Frank and Aaron Syvertsen.
Both Frank and Syvertsen finished with 18 points and garnered All-Tournament Team honors.
For Albright, Ashcroft and Justin Plummer joined Shaeffer on the All-Tournament Team. Rounding out the honors was Preseason All-American Darnell Braswell who was the lone representative for the DeSales University Bulldogs.
Braswell led the Bulldogs to victory in the consolation game over the Berkeley Knights by a score of 92-47.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday when they square off against the King's College Monarchs at the Bollman Center, and game time is set for 7 p.m.
