Women's Basketball Upends PSU Harrisburg in Tournament Opener

Box Score

READING, Pa. - The Albright Women's basketball team (2-0) used a balanced offensive attack that saw four players score in double figures to defeat the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg (0-2). Enjoying a career-best performance and leading the red and white with 12 points was Becca Pollack.

Pollack was one rebound shy of her first double-double as well, grabbing nine boards in the first half alone, but not grabbing any in the second 20 minutes. Joining her in double digit scoring was Jessica McGinness, Rory Yerkes, and Gina Zantopoulos, all three of which finished the afternoon with 10 points.

Marilynn McMonagle led the Lion offense in assists, recording six on the night, and McGinness and Kari Ludy were right behind her with four.

The red and white defended well in the contest, holding PSU Harrisburg to 29% shooting, and forcing 26 turnovers. The Lions also had 26 turnovers themselves, however, keeping the game fast-paced and back and forth.

The Nittany Lions had three scorers finish in double figures, led by Daril Foose who had a game high 14 points. Dorthea Dixon ended the night with 13 points and Stephanie Yetter added 10 of her own.
The Lions never relinquished the lead after the nine minute mark in the first half off a layup by Pollack, and cruised easily to the victory.

In the first game of the tournament, Ursinus College used an 18 point effort from Julie Bown to defeat the Profs of Rowan University 62-54. Albright will now take on Ursinus in the championship game of the tournament Sunday at the Bollman Center at 3 p.m. Rowan will take on PSU Harrisburg in the consolation game beforehand at 1 p.m.
