Box Score
DALLAS, Pa. – Led by junior
Matt Ashcroft who drilled six three-pointers and scored a total of 30 points in order to give the Albright Men's Basketball team (11-1) an 82-73 victory over the Misericordia Cougars (7-6) Wednesday evening at the Arnold Center.
The 30 point effort was a career high for the junior. On the night Ashcroft was 10 of 14 from the field, and combined with an 18 point effort by fellow sharpshooter
Zac Shaeffer. The two have truly cemented themselves as the Lions top all-around players this season with their ability to make the crucial shots.
Ashcroft gave the red and white a much needed push at the end of the first half by scoring the final seven points for the Lions to give them a 37-33 lead at the break.
The Lions held that lead until 13:30 in the second half when a Dom Del Prete field goal gave the Cougars a lead that they intended on holding on to. However with 4:42 remaining in the game, Ashcroft struck again, knocking down a three-pointer to give the Lions the lead for good.
Ashcroft and Shaeffer would add to the Lions lead at the free throw line, which proved to be the deciding factors.
Three players scored in double figures for the Cougars, with Ethan Eichhorst leading the way with 19. Del Prete added 17 of his own, and rounding out the trio was Robbie Johnson with 14.
Adding to the Lions offense was sophomore
Derek Hall who scored 10 points on 5 of 10 shooting from the field, and added four rebounds as well.
Doing a majority of the rebounding for the Lions was fellow sophomore
Shane Irwin who grabbed seven boards off the bench.
Albright used stellar defense to force 15 turnovers for Misericordia and allowed them to get easy buckets off of those miscues.
The Lions return home to action this Saturday when they resume Commonwealth Conference play. The tip is set for 4 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
