Men's Basketball Claws Past Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Led by Derek Hall's 11 rebounds and career best 17 points the Lions (18-4/9-3 CC) came one step closer to securing the top-spot in this year's Commonwealth tournament as the red and white defeated Lebanon Valley College (9-13/6-5 CC) by the final score of 81-77 Saturday afternoon at LVC Gymnasium.

Hall's double-double was his second in the last three games as the sophomore center was 7-of-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from three point range. He also added one block and two assists in 27 minutes of playing time. Matching Hall's double-double was LVC's Dan Dunkelberger who scored 16 points while also tallying 13 rebounds on the night.

Leading Albright's offense on the afternoon was Zac Shaeffer who totaled 20 points on the day, matching the Dutchmen's Joe Meehan. Also finishing in double-figures was Matt Ashcroft with 19 points.

Throughout Saturday's contest the two teams were almost identical from the field, with the Dutchmen holding a slim advantage over the top-ranked Lions. From behind the arc however Lebanon Valley shot an impressive 58.3% while Albright made only 46.4% of their attempts. At the charity strip Albright held a 77.8% to 66.7% shot advantage over the host Dutchmen.

Saturday's match-up saw a combined six lead changes, while the two teams evened the score a total of three times. Albright did manage to close out the first half with a slim one point lead, which they then extended to as much as 15 points in the second half.

However the Dutchmen down but not out battled their way back into the contest through the final five minutes to make it a two-point game. With just seconds remaining in the contest Ashcroft sealed the conference win at the free throw line to make it a two possession game (81-77).

Men's Basketball returns to the Bollman Center on Tuesday when they host Alvernia University at 8 p.m.
