Box Score
In almost a half-foot of snow the Albright College football team turned the ball over seven times and allowed several momentum-killing long runs, in a 60-20 loss to Widener on Senior Day and Homecoming weekend.
The weather had a huge impact with the teams combining for 15 fumbles, but the Pride's high-flying offense (who came into the game averaging 59 points per game this October) still managed to surpass that lofty mark thanks in large part to quarterback
Tevin Campbell's five total touchdowns (three on the ground, two in the air).
Senior
Scott Pillar had another good day with two touchdown catches in the blinding snow and strong winds. Sophomore quarterback
TJ Luddy nearly found a rhythm midway through the game and was 8-for-14 for 110 yards and two TDs, but did throw two interceptions.
On defense, senior
Keith Bruno had a career game with nine total tackles (a game-high), with 1.5 hits for a loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Disaster struck for the Lions on Widener's second play from scrimmage, as running back
Dante Pergolese took a handoff 78 yards for the touchdown. Albright's
Ed Leech picked up a fumble on the conversion try but couldn't take it back the other way for two points.
Albright caused a big turnover as
Sean Cunningham stripped Campbell and senior
Ryan Ott recovered, but the Lions would return the favor with a lost fumble on the ensuing drive.
Albright got a stop but only had the ball for one play and fumbled it away again, leading to Campbell's 27-yard TD run and a 14-0 Widener lead.
Poor tackling robbed the Lions of momentum every time they had appeared to seize it, as Luddy's beautiful 39-yard TD throw to Pillar threw the thickening snow was quickly erased by
Laquan Robinson's 69-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, puttint Widener ahead 22-7.
The Lions again tried to rally before halftime, as
Eric Wade blocked a punt and Luddy took it in himself on a one-yard QB sneak to pull Albright within nine at the half. Widener answered with a TD right after the half though. After Luddy found Pillar for another TD catch, Campbell found a gaping hole to the left and went 63 yards for the score, again placing the momentum back squarely with the visitors.
