The Albright College women's basketball team shot just 25% in the second half as the Lions fell 69-56, Saturday at Centenary.
Senior
Jenny Knoebel had a team-high nine points, while sophomore
Shawn Barczynski had a game-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore
Meghan Boyle pulled down eight boards.
Knoebel's nine points came as she converted all three of her first half three-point attempts; the Lions shot 5-of-8 from behind the arc before halftime.
Albright led 17-11 after less than five minutes following a three-pointer from freshman
Amanda Tiritilli. Following a Knoebel three, Kirsti McFadden finished off a lay-in to put the visitors ahead 26-19.
At that point, the Cyclones ripped off a 14-2 run to surge ahead. Despite a three-pointer from
Victoria Smith in the final minute of the half, Centenary answered with a last-second three to lead 38-33 heading into the break.
Jessica Venturelli's trey with 17:54 to play made it 38-36 Centenary and Barczynski scored to keep Albright within three at 43-40. Although the deficit swelled to double-digits, Tara Sabotchik's basket with 6:42 to play had the Lions down just six points heading into crunch time. The Cyclones scored the next 10 points however to pull away.
Danielle Trucksess led Centenary with 13 points, while
Jen Vasta,
Andrea Innis and
Melissa Kukoda all had 12.
Albright falls to 2-3 and will begin Commonwealth Conference play on Wednesday with a visit from Lycoming.
