Lions Roar Back in Second Half to Top Misericordia

Box Score

The Albright College men's basketball team rallied back from a 13-point second half deficit as the Lions defeated Misericordia 61-56, Wednesday night in Dallas, Pa.

Senior Derek Hall was 10-of-17 for a game-high 23 points. Sophomore Reuel Moore continued his hot shooting with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Junior Cornell Mickens had game-highs with eight rebounds and three steals.

A three-pointer by sophomore point guard Matt Greene gave Misericordia a 42-29 lead, and senior Ethan Eichhorst kept the gap at 13 with a basket just after the 15 minute to go mark.

At that point the Lions made their move, going on an 11-0 run that was capped by Shane Irwin's put-back with 12:34 to play. The Cougars opened the lead back up to six, but Moore's pull-up jumper made it 53-51 and Kyle Jordan's bucket brought the visitors all the back to 53-53.

Albright took the lead for the first time in the period on Hall's lay-in with 4:01 remaining. Hall would score again on the next possession, and sophomore Sam Marrella sank four free throws in the final minute as Misericordia could muster just one made field goal over the final seven-and-a-half minutes of the contest.

The Lions had came out of the gate slow themselves and didn't record a field goal for the first 5:49, a slump that was ended by  Jordan's lay-in to make it 5-3 MU.

Cael Evans answered for the hosts, but Hall scored on consecutive possessions to tie the game at 9-9.

Albright took its first lead of the game with 8:55 left in the first half on a jumper by Moore that put them ahead 12-11. A three-point play from Eichhorst completed a mini-Misericordia run to make it 25-19 Cougars, but Albright answered with lay-ups from Moore and Hall.

Eichhorst had 20 points for MU, while Greene scored nine and dished out a game-high seven assists. Sharpshooter Jeff Slanovec equaled Mickens' game-high eight rebounds but went just 1-of-9 from the field.

Albright improves to 4-2 and will host Lancaster Bible, Saturday at 3 p.m.
