No. 9/11 LVC Downs Women's Basketball on Senior Day

Box Score

READING – Led by a terrific game by senior point guard Andrea Hoover, #9/11 Lebanon Valley College (21-2, 11-1 Commonwealth) cruised past women's basketball (7-15, 3-9) by the score of 72-36 on Saturday afternoon in the Bollman Center.

After honoring their five senior members, the Lady Lions were able to stay with the Dutchmen early on. A jumper from senior Jessica McGinness on Albright's first possession gave the Lady Lions their biggest lead of the night. Another senior, MariLynn McMonagle, would keep Albright in it with a three-pointer with 14:24 to play in the first half to give the home team a 9-8 lead. Lebanon Valley would begin to pull away, however, and took their first double-digit lead with 4:38 to play on a jumper from Hoover. The visitors would expand that lead to 13 and take a 35-22 advantage into the halftime break.

The Dutchmen would erase all doubt of a Lady Lion comeback as the second half began. They went on a 17-2 run in the first seven minutes of the second half to take a 54-24 lead and never looked back. After hanging in with Lebanon Valley in the first half, Albright struggled to score throughout the final 20 minutes while shooting just 14.8% from the field.

Lebanon Valley shot an efficient 52.7% from the field and outrebounded Albright 42 to 25. The Dutchmen also turned the ball over 13 times to 15 turnovers for the Lady Lions.

Hoover deposited 20 points on 7 for 11 shooting from the field while adding a game-high eight assists and a game-high eight rebounds. The visiting Dutchmen were also aided by 16 points and 7 rebounds from Caitlin Bach, and Liz Borgia finished in doubles figures coming off the bench with 15 points. Renee Fritz blocked five shots to lead Lebanon Valley on the defensive end.

McGinness was the only player to finish in doubles figures for the Red & White as she paced the home side with 13 points and 3 rebounds. McMonagle dropped in eight points to go along with five rebounds. In their final home game for the Lady Lions, senior guards Rory Yerkes and Dana Wilcomes combined for five assists, while senior forward Rose Williamson blocked a team-high two shots.

Women's basketball will conclude its season with two away games. They will return to the court when they travel to cross-town rival Alvernia University on Tuesday evening for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
