Box Score
The Albright College football team continued to force turnovers and score points at a staggering rate as the Lions defeated King's College 57-17, Saturday in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Sophomore cornerback
Drew Peterson had a team-high seven tackles and picked off two passes, taking one back for a 78-yard touchdown return (the third-longest pick-six in school history).
David Webb recovered a fumble as well as the Lions had three takeaways.
The Lions also snuck into the school record books with eight touchdowns, tied for sixth-most ever in a game (but still one short of last week's nine-TD effort against another Wilkes-Barre opponent, the Wilkes Colonels).
Albright's quarterbacks continued to throw the ball with remarkable efficiency. Starter
Adam Galczynski was 11-of-16 for 180 yards and two touchdowns, and junior
TJ Luddy completed 10-of-11 passes (91%) for 116 yards and a score. Luddy has now thrown just one incompletion in 18 attempts over the past two weeks.
After his BSN National recognition a week ago, senior wide receiver
Scott Pillar had another huge performance, catching eight balls for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Junior
Zach Groff rushed for a team-high 78 yards on just seven touches.
Albright scored four touchdowns on four possessions in the first half (excluding a kneel down at the end of the second quarter). On the game's opening drive, Galczynski shook off a rusher and dumped off to captain
Josan Holmes, who took it in for a 7-0 lead.
King's answered with a field goal but Pillar, who has made a habit of breaking behind opposing secondaries in 2011, caught a 54-yard TD from Galczynski to make it 14-3. Luddy then got a chance and converted a 4th-and-2 on Holmes' tip-toe catch before running the ball in himself for yet another score.
Albright made it 28-3 just 41 seconds before the break on another Pillar TD catch, and Peterson shut down the Monarchs with an interception after they had quickly moved to midfield following Albright's fourth score.
The Monarchs threatened off the second half kickoff but Webb's fumble recovery in the end zone thwarted the drive. King's did force an Albright punt for the only time all day and responded with a touchdown to make it 28-17, but it was all Lions the rest of the way.
Marty Reinhardt's 10-yard run restored Albright's 18-point lead and
Nick Devine's fumble recovery saved the ensuing Lions drive (which Pillar capped with his final TD catch).
Defensive ends
Francis Hall and
Don Gould soon combined for a third down sack which forced a King's punt, and the ensuing snap went out of the back of the end zone for a safety. Albright couldn't be stopped as they scored from scrimmage for the second straight play on Groff's 53-yard scamper.
The Lions improve to 4-0, 2-0 and ruin King's Homecoming celebrations. Now Albright has a chance for major revenge next Saturday, as they travel to Williamsport to visit the Lycoming team that blew them out on their own Homecoming, one year ago.
