The Albright College men's basketball team defeated Muhlenberg College 78-76, Tuesday night in Puerto Rico.
Senior
Dave Singleton was 8-of-12 from the floor and finished with 17 points to go with six rebounds and five assists. Also in double-figures for the Lions were
Kyle Jordan (16 points) and
Pedro Perez (14 points, six boards).
Senior
Cornell Mickens was 3-for-4 with nine points and three assists, while starters
Zach Benjamin and
Sam Marrella had six points each.
The first half was close throughout, as the teams traded baskets early and were tied 18-18 midway through. Things were still all square at halftime, 31-31.
The Lions picked up the tempo in the second half and had Singleton back on the floor after he was forced to sit late in the first half with two fouls.
Albright opened up a 53-48 lead midway through the second half and led by as much as nine in the final minutes. Benjamin drained a pair of big jumpers late to keep the Lions ahead by three points.
The Lions had a five-point lead in the dying seconds, with Muhlenberg's
Alex Stavetski hitting a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the final difference to two points.
Stavetski made 5-of-7 threes to finish with 25 points on the day.
Malique Killin had 21 points and four assists for Muhlenberg, while
Brandon Bovino added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Albright improves to 9-1 and will face Goucher on Thursday evening, again in Puerto Rico. Muhlenberg is 6-4 on the season.
