Men's Lacrosse Grabs Impressive Victory Over Susquehanna

Box Score

The wins keep coming for Albright College men's lacrosse as the Lions improved to 9-1 with a 9-7 victory over arguably their toughest opponent yet, Susquehanna University on Wednesday in Shirk Stadium.

Freshman T.J. Holston scored the clinching goal with 2:27 to go after the Crusaders had rallied to within one, getting free in the middle and finishing into the open net with the goalie leaving his crease to double-team.

Bryan Smith led the way with four goals and an assist, while Justin Brown scored twice. Philip Potter added one assist to his NCAA-leading total of 33.

Albright led 3-2 after the opening quarter, and pushed that lead to 6-2 after Potter assisted Brown and Smith assisted Dan Foote after a goal of his own. After scoring with exactly a minute left in the opening quarter, Luke Delavan assisted Dustin Breaky with 1:00 on the clock in the second to keep things close at halftime.

Up 8-6 heading into the fourth, the Lions defense kept the Crusaders scoreless for most of the period, but an untimely turnover allowed Susquehanna to break, leading to Breaky's goal with 5:19 remaining.

The Lions kept their cool however, and Holston's goal helped capped an impressive win and guarantee a winning regular season mark in Albright's first-ever campaign.

Freshman Andrew Torak continued his solid play in goal with 12 stops. Darian Meador picked up seven ground balls and Mike Donohoe caused four turnovers.

Breaky scored twice for Susquehanna, with Austen Lein (goal, two assists) adding three points. Trae Humphreys won 10-of-17 faceoffs and totaled four ground balls.

Albright will host Rosemont on Saturday in its final tuneup for Commonwealth Conference play.
