In a penalty-marred contest, the Albright College men's lacrosse team lost for the first time in conference play, falling 11-7 at Lycoming on Saturday.
An incredible 23 penalties were whistled in the contest, for a total of 16:30 power play minutes. Albright totaled 13 infractions resulting in three Lyco man-up goals, while 10 Warrior penalties led to four Lion goals.
Bryan Smith (two goals, two assists) led the way with four points, while
Dan Foote had a hat trick.
T.J. Holston had a goal and two assists,
Ryan Turner contributed a goal and an assist, and
Darian Meador won 12-of-21 faceoffs and totaled seven ground balls.
Ethan Payne (3 goals, 2 assists) and
Sean Reilly (2 goals, 2 assists) led the way for Lycoming.
Stephen Romano had a goal, an assist, and six ground balls on the day.
Albright was leading 4-3 after
Philip Potter found Smith, but the Warriors scored six unanswered goals to open up a 9-4 advantage.
The Lions battled, as Holston tallied on the power play with 41 seconds left in the third quarter, and Foote tacked on two man-up goals early in the fourth. It was the closest Albright would get however, with
Ben Waker and
Matt McCaffer striking for Lycoming to cap the scoring.
Albright falls to 13-2, 3-1, but can still get a playoff bye with wins in its final two regular season games, vs. Alvernia (Tuesday) and Messiah (Saturday).
