The Albright College men's golf team defeated crosstown rival Alvernia University on Monday, in a match pairing the top two finishers at last year's Commonwealth Conference championships.
The teams continued their incredibly close back-and-forth rivalry, after the Lions retained the Yocum Cup in a tie last season before missing out on the conference championship to the Crusaders by just one stroke. In this match Alvernia actually turned in four of the top seven cards, but Albright's varsity five performed the best, winning 309-315.
Albright's
Avery Jones and Alvernia's
Tim Pici shared individual honors, each shooting 73. The Crusaders'
Brett Fernandes (77) was third.
Also scoring for the Lions was
Brody Blessing (78),
Anthony Rusnak (78),
Sal Capelli (80) and
Payne Baust (81).
Albright will compete next Monday at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational, and will go head-to-head with Alvernia again on October 5 and 7, in the annual Yocum Cup.
