Women's Tennis Starts Off Season With a Win

The Albright College women's tennis team took five of six singles points, en route to a 6-3 victory over Penn State-Abington on Friday in the Lions' 2012-13 season opener.

Single-season doubles wins partners Victoria Foanio and Alyssa Sell continued where they left off, sweeping top Abington pair Jenny Abraham and Olga Popili 8-0. The pair of also won easily at first and second singles, respectively.

Albright freshmen had the toughest matches, as rookie Elizabeth Bengston won a marathon 7-6, 4-6, 10-5 decision at fifth singles. At fourth singles, Lion freshman Erin Sullivan lost by a tough 7-6, 7-5 scoreline.

Sophomore Melissa Carberry won 6-0, 6-0 over Lori Phillips at third singles, and classmate Christina Peacock was victorious in the sixth spot.

The Lions are 1-0 and will host Neumann on Monday.
