There is a big game tonight in the Bollman Center, as the Albright men's basketball squad hosts Lycoming in a battle of two of the Commonwealth Conference's best teams (both 12-3), and two of its best players as well.
Commonwealth Conference Picture
Briefly in first place and receiving votes in the national polls, the Lions have lost two of three to fall into a tie for third place with Arcadia (5-3). However, Albright could be back on top after tonight if they beat league leaders Lycoming (6-2) and if Alvernia (5-2) loses at home to Arcadia.
Albright College Lions (12-3, 5-3 Commonwealth)
The Lions fell to the rival Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley 77-67, in just their third loss of the season on Saturday.
Leading the way for the Lions was guard
Pedro Perez who had 20 points, three assists, two steals, and six rebounds. He and
Andre Marshall both drained four three's in the game. Marshall finished with 14 points.
Perez is averaging 12.9 points per game and is shooting 46.3% from the floor (33.3% from behind the arc).
Lycoming College Warriors (12-3, 6-2 Commonwealth)
The Warriors lead the nation in assists per game (21.1 apg), thanks to outstanding point guard play. They are also second in the country in blocks per game (6.3 bpg), led by
Michael Rudy (28),
Anthony Martin (22) and
Justin Miller (17).
Martin, a senior guard, leads the Warriors with 15.0 points per contest. He has eclipsed 1,200 career points, including his years in Community College. Senior
Ihsaan Davis (9.5 ppg) reached the 1,000-point mark earlier this month vs. Widener.
Williams vs. Singleton
This game features arguably the two best players in the Commonwealth, as senior point guards
Dave Singleton and
Jerald Williams face off.
Williams leads the nation in assists, averaging an impressive 11.8 helpers per game. He is also third in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.85) and fourth in steals (3.67 spg). He became the Commonwealth Conference' all-time assist leader this season and needs 17 more to reach 12th place all-time in the NCAA record books. He was also named the D-III News National Player of the Month for November.
Singleton, a former Division I starter at High Point University, is 18th in the nation in assists (5.7 apg), while also averaging double-digit points and ranking in the top-65 in rebounding (9.1 rpg, 64th), steals (2.4 spg, 54th) and double-doubles (six, 35th). He has come close to a triple-double on multiple occasions, including last weekend vs. LVC (14 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists).
