Missing a chance to draw even with Lycoming in the Commonwealth Conference standings after a loss to Elizabethtown, the Lions will try to get back on the winning track as they welcome the Blazers of Hood College to the Bollman Center for a conference game slated to start at 8 p.m.
Previous Meeting
The only meeting between the Lions and Blazers came back in the 2005 with Albright scoring a 94-72 win over Hood.
Albright College Lions (11-2, 4-2 Commonwealth)
The Lions had their six game winning streak snapped on the 5th of January as Elizabethtown came to Reading and defeated Albright 73-63. Junior
Kyle Jordan led all Albright scorers with 21 points. Jordan also pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the team. Redshirt junior
Pedro Perez was the only other Lion in double figures with 13 points.
After tonight the Lions look ahead to matchups with Lebanon Valley College on the 12th and a critical battle with the Warriors of Lycoming on the 16th. The matchup with Lycoming could be an early deciding factor in who comes out on top of the Commonwealth Conference as Lycoming leads by one game over Albright.
Hood College Blazers (8-4, 2-3 Commonwealth)
Hood is playing in its first season as part of the Commonwealth Conference after spending previous years in the Capital Athletic Conference. With conference wins over in-state rival Stevenson and Arcadia, the Blazers seem to be holding their own in their first season in the Commonwealth. A 75-72 win over Arcadia on January 5th accounts for the Blazers last win as they get set to face Albright.
After Albright, Hood looks forward to hosting Widener and Lebanon Valley for two tough conference games. Junior forward
Cameron Cook leads all Blazers scorers with 15.8 points per game, and could set the school career record for three-pointers made with two treys tonight. Senior forward
James Stone is the only other Blazer who is averaging double figure points, chipping in 12.3 PPG.
Head Coaches
Albright is led by head coach
Rick Ferry. Compiling a 162-123 win/loss record through the 2011-12 season, Ferry has rebuilt a program that was 4-21 in his first season at the helm into a perennial power that is near the top of the Commonwealth Conference each season.
Tom Dickman is in his 10th season as the head coach at Hood College with an overall record of 128 wins and 105 loses. Dickman registered his 100th career victory in 2010 when his Hood squad beat Penn State-Mont Alto.
MAC 100 All-Century Teams
Voting is now open for the MAC 100 All-Century winter teams, as the conference celebrates its centennial this year. Squads are being chosen for each era in conference history and an impressive list of Lion legends have been nominated. Albright men's basketball nominees include the school's all-time leading scorer
Tom Pearsall, New York Knicks draft pick
Bill Carey, and recent Commonwealth Players of the Year
Albert Medoro and
Zac Schaeffer. Vote online now at
