Full Game Notes

LiveStats

The Albright College men's basketball team opens its 2013-14 season with a difficult road test, facing 2013 NCAA at-large qualifier Wesley College.

Series History

Despite being separated by just over 100 miles, this will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

2013 NCAA Championship Selection

Albright (third) was ranked ahead of Wesley (fifth) in the NCAA regional rankings posted following the conclusion of the 2013-14 regular season. However, after the Lions were upset by Lycoming in their conference semifinal and Wesley beat Salisbury in the CAC semifinals, it is believed that the Wolverines jumped Albright in the committee's final rankings.

While D3hoops.com projected both teams to make the tournament, ultimately the NCAA selection committee chose Wesley from the Mid-Atlantic Region while leaving the Lions at home.

Albright College Lions (0-0)

The Albright College men's basketball team is looking to complete a championship season after coming up just short on several occasions in 2012-13.

The Lions went 22-7 last year- the second-most victories in school history. However, Albright was upset at home in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs, and was left out of the NCAA tournament despite being projected for an at-large bid by D3hoops.com. The Red and White then hosted the ECAC South championships, but dropped the championship game in double-overtime to Juniata.

Senior guard Sam Marrella will run the point for a third consecutive season, after turning in a 3.30 assist-to-turnover ratio last year. He totaled 89 assists, and shot a team-best 79.5% from the free throw line.

Wing players Pedro Perez and Kyle Jordan earned Honorable Mention All-Commonwealth nods and return for their final season at Albright. Perez (14.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg), a fifth-year senior, is a smart player who can shoot from outside and has become a bigger scoring threat each year. Jordan (11.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 50 assists, 35 blocks, 31 steals, 53.5 FG%) can do a bit of everything for the Lions, on both ends of the floor.

Senior shooting guard Reuel Moore, sophomore center Calvert Gantz, sophomore forward Evan Ward and junior point guard Devin Brown have seen varying levels of action in the past but will all be asked to step into bigger roles this season.

Wesley College Wolverines (2-0)

Wesley is 2-0 on the season after winning the Blue Jay Invitational, beating Mt. St. Mary (66-55) and host Johns Hopkins (90-76).

Senior David Langan earned tournament MVP and Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after averaging 25.5 points on 82.1% shooting to go with 12.5 rebounds.

Wesley went 20-8 in 2012-13, and earned its third NCAA tournament trip in the last five seasons.
