The Albright College men's basketball team earned its first victory of the 2013-14 season, beating crosstown opponent Penn State-Berks 92-75 on the road.
Senior
Reuel Moore hit 7-of-12 shots and made three attempts from behind the arc, finishing with a game-high 18 points in 22 minutes of action.
Classmates
Sam Marrella (nine points, eight assists),
Pedro Perez (11 points, three assists) and
Kyle Jordan (nine rebounds, three assists) also contributed as well. Freshman
Sameen Swint totaled 16 of 5-of-7 shooting (3-of-3 from downtown).
As a team, the Lions shot 55.2% in the second half, while also making 11-of-13 free throws (84.6%) in a very efficient period.
The Red and White opened the game on the free throw line after a pregame Berks technical foul, and led 1-0 when Marrella dropped in his second shot.
PSU-Berks led for most of the opening eight-plus minutes, until
Evan Ward tied the game at 15-15 with a pair of free throws. The next time down the floor, Perez converted a three-point play.
Junior
Devin Brown sank a three-pointer, and Ward followed with a lay-in for a 23-17 Albright lead. Freshman
Josh Marquez soon gave the Lions their first double-digit lead, 29-19, with a three-pointer.
Former Albright player
Christian Burggraf was in the starting lineup and scored 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. He was one of four Nittany Lion starters in double-figures, joining
Tom Smith (16),
Dameon Nixon (16) and
Darren Major (12).
Albright is 1-1 on the season and will open up Commonwealth Conference play at home Tuesday to Messiah (7 p.m.).
