The Albright College men's basketball team faces both 2011-12 Middle Atlantic Conference champions during Thanksgiving week.
Albright opens Commonwealth Conference play against the Falcons on Tuesday night in the Bollman Center. The Lions then travel to Misericordia on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Free Admission For Tonight's Game
With many students leaving campus today for the holidays, there will be free admission for tonight's home conference game against Messiah.
Albright College Lions (1-1, 0-0)
The Lions got back on track with a 92-75 victory across town at Penn State-Berks on Saturday.
Senior
Reuel Moore hit 7-of-12 shots and made three attempts from behind the arc, finishing with a game-high 18 points in 22 minutes of action. Classmates
Sam Marrella (nine points, eight assists),
Pedro Perez (11 points, three assists) and
Kyle Jordan (nine rebounds, three assists) also contributed as well. Freshman
Sameen Swint totaled 16 of 5-of-7 shooting (3-of-3 from downtown).
As a team, the Lions shot 55.2% in the second half, while also making 11-of-13 free throws (84.6%) in a very efficient period.
Messiah College Falcons (4-0, 0-0)
Messiah won the Commonwealth Conference in 2011-12 behind first team All-Conference sophomore
David Fernandez (16.1 ppg, 56.1 FG%), beating Albright in overtime in the semifinals. Fernandez went down with an injury at the beginning of last season however, and the Falcons went 13-11, 9-9 and missed the playoffs with a season-ending loss to Alvernia.
Fernandez is back this year and averaging 11.0 ppg as the Falcons are off to a 4-0 start to the season.
Christyan DeVan has started all four games, while his brother
Aaron DeVan joins the squad after appearing in five games last season for Division I Mount St. Mary's.
Misericordia University Cougars (2-2)
Misericordia won the Freedom Conference in 2011-12, before falling back to 13-13 and a league semifinal loss last season. The Cougars are 2-2 heading into a Tuesday night matchup with Albright rival Lebanon Valley College.
MU won its home McCarthy Tire Laurel Line Tournament, before dropping road games at Scranton and Haverford.
Steve Ware (14.0),
Joe Busacca (13.0) and
Matt Greene (11.8) are all averaging in double-figures for the Cougars.
